Dining In The Dark

Dining in the dark is a restaurant concept that has taken the world by storm. Although many of them are Kitschy tourist traps, it is such a unique experience to eat and drink while you can’t see anything. Your tastes and smells and other senses are heightened because you have no sight.

The dining in the dark experience that we went to was in Kuala Lumpur.  All of the servers are blind which is not the case for all of the venues but I loved that fact. There were about 10 of us that went. Many people said, “Oh No, I need to see what I am eating or why would you want to do this?”

When they say dining in the dark, they mean DARK!  You can’t see your hand in front of your face and you just keep waiting for your eyes to adjust when they never do.

You start in the light with a delightful glass of fresh fruit juice to tickle your senses and to test your taste buds. Then you begin the sensory games.

Once in the dining room the server helped us to our table and showed us how to find our wine glass. Thank Goodness!  It’s strange to sit with friends in complete darkness.  The stories that came out of that evening were entertaining to say the least.

There are four courses with multiple dishes per course.  The food was OK but not amazing.  After we ate we tried to guess what it was and most of us were pretty off.  The Verdict: Do it, it may be a little cheesy but still a super fun experience.  If you don’t have a lot of time in a city though I would save it for another time and experience the local cuisine.
