Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin at the Siam Kempinski Hotel has reinvented Thai food and took traditional Thai cuisine and served in a radically different way. Every tasting was served with a surprise and a live action station. This is rare as it’s normally only a few items on the menu that have that element of creating and cooking tableside. I loved how creative this menu was. It was hard to imagine that what you were looking at was a red curry or Tom Yum Soup. If you see it and taste it, you will believe it.
Snacks and Drinks-These were not even part of the tasting menu but included some of my favorite items. I am always a sucker for snacks and apps.
The bag is edible!
1st Starter: Laksa Based Crab-on-Crab Cornetto
This was a really unique and interactive one. You took a light sip of the soup, ate the crab cornetto, took another light sip of soup, ate the fried oyster in dip and then took another light sip of the soup and ate the squid dipped in egg yoke.
2nd Starter: Seabass with Apple and Celery Salad and Spicy Meringue
This was a light and airy fish mixed with a spicy, tangy and crunchy salad. The mix of flavors and textures was a jolt to the senses. The dressing was made to order tableside based on your flavor and spice preferences.
3rd Starter: Salt-baked Carrot with Scallop and Tamarind, Lemongrass
This was all about the flavor and soft textures. The mild sweet flavor of the scallop and strength of the carrot with the sour-sweet tamarind sauce makes this a very nice zen like starter.
4th Starter: Pan-Fried Foie Gras, Ginger and Plum Wine
I’m trying to be a fan of Foie Gras but its just not my texture preference. The flavors however are rich and divine.
5th Starter: Frozen Red Curry with Lobster Salad
The Gang Dang Frozen Red Curry, one of the restaurants’ signature dishes was the most special dish. This is Red Curry like you never imagined. The familiar piquant taste is there, but the presentation is totally new and inspiring.
Main Course: Beef Massaman with Potatoes
This was the star of the show. The nutty massaman together with the crunchy potato chips and juicy beef was a match made in heaven.
1st Dessert: Flower Shop
The hibiscus floral and sweet flavor profiles of this dish was good but better suited for a drink.
2nd Dessert: Mango Sticky Rice
I mean…Can you go wrong with mango sticky rice? This takes it to a whole notha level!
If you find yourself in Bangkok, let your five senses run wild at this one of a kind interactive eatery.
